What if I have no equine experience ? What if I am afraid of horses?
Equine assisted psychotherapy is not just for "horse people" or those who have previous experience with horses.
We have designed and developed a safe calm environment, where our highly-skilled practitioners help clients learn and heal in nature, in the company of our amazing herd.
What should I wear ?
Interacting closely with horses and ponies can be a bit dirty; we ask you to dress comfortably. Even our miniture ponies weigh over 100kg, so please wear closed-in shoes or sneakers.
In Summer although there is shade, sunscreen and a hat are a great idea.
In Winter, we have shelter where you can interact with the horses-so a warm coat will help you get the most from the experience.
What should I bring?
We have limited hot and cold drinks available, so bring anything else you might want to drink. We don't provide food without prior arrangement, but there are many delicious bakeries and cafes in Hahndorf should you want a snack on the way home.
Weather
Our facilities can be used year-round and individual sessions within a program will be adapted as necessary to weather conditions on the day.
On the rare occasions that the expected weather for your session is extreme, or if there is a catastrophic bush fire warning, we shall contact you in advance to discuss activity or scheduling options.
Toilets
We are a working farm and live on-site. We have a toilet available in the main house if required. Toilet access is being adapted, but is not wheel chair friendly at this stage.
Timing
We ask that you arrive a few minutes before your scheduled session to allow time for parking, settling in etc.
Cancellation
We schedule and book our sessions and plan programs far in advance and do not generally allow for cancellations or rescheduling, except in exceptional circumstances. Please get in touch immediately if your plans change so we can discuss.
Payment
Please pay in advance for all scheduled sessions. Payment can be made via bank transfer or credit card.
